Autumn Gardeners--

Cooler weather and later garden hours signal our gradual descent through fall and into winter. Meanwhile, our greens are growing at an almost alarming rate! If your table could use some bok choy, lettuce, kale, mustard, or collards, stop by during one of our sessions and take home some fresh produce.

On Wednesday, we harvested another batch of lettuce for SAFE and planted starts that Ginger brought by. A special thanks to Farmbelly for sharing their extra lettuce with us! And thanks to Richard, who gave the grounds around the Patch a fresh haircut on Saturday.

Clocks shifted this week, and so have our hours!

We'll gather this week on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

The week ahead:

• Weed

• Water as needed

• Cut back asparagus after first hard frost

• Turn compost piles

• Harvest more lettuce, kale, bok choy, and collards.

Garden needs:

• kitchen scraps for our compost piles (always)

• bagged leaves

• dibbles

• plant labels

• pruning shears

• wood chips (we got some, but we could use more)

Fall Hike at Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve (Sat, Nov. 7 | 1–4 PM).

Explore the autumn landscape at this 84-acre natural area in northeast Durham, managed by the North Carolina Botanical Garden. Surrounded on three sides by the Eno River, Penny’s Bend features mature forests, open prairies, and regionally rare plants. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Garden’s conservation efforts.
