Items of Note This first flush of new lettuce leaves are especially tender and delicious. Visit the garden on work days if you can and take home a bunch. ——————- We'll decide this week on a structure for cooking at the garden. A brick fire pit kit, available at Lowe's, is on the table, as is a standard Weber grill. The fire pit is more attractive a good source of heat, really appreciated during cold work sessions over the winter. The Weber is way less attractive but is portable and easy to fire up. Please weigh in if you have a preference. ——————- Check out our sign up tool for our Fall Gathering at the garden on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 12-3pm. This is not a fundraiser, just a chance to gather, enjoy a potluck, live music, and good friends. Please sign up for a dish you'll bring. Thank you! ——————- Stop by the Hawbridge Lower School Learning Garden at the mill when you have a chance, across from the brewery. Faculty member Amanda Stone has worked into the Hawbridge curriculum horticulture classes for K-6 students. The two gardens are full of good-looking crops, all tended by students. It's a feather in the school's cap that students can learn to grow healthy food, lessons they'll take with them. ——————- Our first figs, three, came in a few weeks ago. We're growing three Celeste variety trees. All should produce well beginning next year. It's not too late to sow cool-weather crops in the garden. Let us know your favorites and we'll sow them right away. Provide seeds if you can.
